A Backyard Built for Summer Nights — Gas Fire Pit Line in Burnsville, MN

No more running to the store for propane tanks mid-cookout. A Burnsville family wanted their new patio fire pit to light up on demand, so we ran a safe, permanent gas line straight to it — pressure-tested, up to code, and ready before the weekend.

About the Project

This one wasn't an emergency — it was an upgrade. A Burnsville family had just finished a new backyard patio with a built-in fire pit at its center, and they were tired of the propane-tank routine: buying them, hauling them, swapping them out, and running dry right in the middle of a gathering. What they wanted was simple in concept — a fire pit that comes to life with the turn of a knob, fed by the home's natural gas supply, with no tanks to think about ever again.

Simple in concept, but not a do-it-yourself job. Running a new gas line is exactly the kind of work that has to be done by a licensed professional: the line has to be correctly sized so the fire pit gets enough gas, safely routed from the home's existing supply out to the patio, and pressure-tested and installed to Minnesota gas code. Get any of that wrong and you're risking a gas leak — which is why this is never a corner to cut.

We came out, looked at where the family's gas supply entered the home and where the fire pit sat on the new patio, and mapped the safest, cleanest route between the two. Then we gave them one clear, upfront price for the whole job and scheduled the work. No surprises, no "we'll see how it goes."

What We Did

    • Assessed the yard layout and the home's existing gas meter capacity to plan a safe, direct route to the fire pit locationmal detection equipment — no guesswork, no exploratory holes
    • Called for a utility locate and confirmed the position of all underground lines before any digging began
    • Trenched a code-compliant path from the meter to the fire pit, sized the line correctly for the unit's BTU output, and kept disruption to the lawn and landscaping to a minimum
    • Installed the gas line, made all connections, and pressure-tested the system to confirm there were zero leaks before backfilling
    • Connected and tested the fire pit's shut-off valve and ignition to make sure it lit reliably and shut off cleanly
    • Backfilled and restored the yard so there was no lasting sign the ground had ever been opened
    • Walked the homeowner through safe start-up, shut-off, and basic maintenance before wrapping up
  • "We'd been putting this off for a year because we didn't trust just anyone to run a gas line. These guys made it easy — they explained everything, gave us the price upfront, and had it done in an afternoon. No more propane tanks. We've used that fire pit almost every weekend since." — Homeowner, Burnsville, MN

    The Result

The family traded a cabinet full of empty propane tanks for a fire pit that's always ready — no refills, no runs to the store, no running out at the worst moment. More than that, the work was done right: a properly sized, code-compliant gas line, leak-tested and safe, that adds real value to the home and years of backyard evenings to come. It's the kind of upgrade you only have to do once, as long as it's done properly the first time.
